What is a Brand Widget?
Brand Widgets are part of our Open Content Platform and contain editorial and programming from participating CNET Networks properties. Partners who feature these Widgets on their sites can enhance their users' experience through award-winning CNET Networks content.
What do the Widgets look like?
Widgets can be viewed at each participating brand's Widget Gallery: BNET, CHOW, CNET, GameSpot, and TV.com.
What sizes are the Widgets available in?
Available sizes vary according to each participating CNET Networks brand. For examples and listings of the different sizes, visit the Widget Galleries: BNET, CHOW, CNET, GameSpot, and TV.com.
How can I get a Widget for my site?
First, visit the Widget Galleries to select the type and size of Widget you wish to feature. Next, fill out and submit the sign-up form. You will then be provided with a snippet of code to add to your web page. Please expect a 15-minute delay between the time you add the code and the time the Widget begins displaying on your site.
Why do I need to sign up for my Widget?
The information you provide at sign-up lets us know where our content will be featured, and helps us maintain a partnership with you.
How do I remove the Widget from my site?
To remove a Widget from your site, simply delete the Widget code from your pages.
How often will the content in my Widget be updated?
Depending on the Widget you choose, the content will refresh several times daily or weekly.
Can I customize the content in the Widget?
No. Widget content is determined by the participating CNET Networks brand.
Will having a Widget on my page slow down my page rendering time?
No. The Widget is placed in an IFrame, so even if there were a delay in loading the Widget, your content would still display as expected.
What should I do if no content displays on the page where I've placed a Widget?
For troubleshooting help, please contact us.
What happens to any personally identifiable information (PII) my site visitors provide when interacting with a Widget?
All PII provided by visitors to your site when they interact with a Widget is the property of CNET Networks. All site users will be made aware of CNET Networks' privacy policy before submitting any PII. PII collected by your site will not be seen or used by the CNET Networks Widget.
How is my page affected if the Widget server goes down? Will an empty space display on my page?
Our Widget server's uptime exceeds 99.9%, so unplanned outages are unlikely. However, if one did occur, the IFrame on your site would display as a blank area or possibly an error message.
During any planned maintenance timeframes, an appropriate static block of content will display in place of the IFrame. We will always make every effort to address any technical issues in a timely and efficient manner. Please contact us regarding any technical issues.
Under what conditions would CNET Networks stop serving a Widget?
We would immediately discontinue serving a Widget if the content on a partner site is found to contain:
- Pornographic or obscene images
- Hate speech
- Text that encourages any illegal activity
We also will not serve a Widget if the Widget code is placed on a different domain than the one entered at sign-up.
In the event a Widget is removed under these circumstances, a message saying "Sorry, the Widget is not available for this page" will appear.
What is an Open Content premium partnership program?
The premium partnership program allows for the sharing of content between CNET Networks' leading brands and partners selected by CNET Networks. Partners are chosen by relevancy of content and audience.
